THE MENTORING PROCESS

Our mentors are caring, non-judgmental professional women that bring a unique variety of skill-sets, diverse educational backgrounds and guided wisdom, promoting positive self-esteem, social and life skills, inspiration and empowerment. Mentors and mentees engage in large and small group discussions and participate in fun and educational activities. One-to-one mentoring is also provided, depending on a mentee's needs.

Our mentors are prepared to deal with various Pre-Teen and Teen Challenges including: Bullying; College and Career Options; Dating Drug & Alcohol Abuse; Personal Health Relationships; and Self-Esteem Social Skills

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • Referrals for academic support, school and community resources.

  • Team building activities.

  • Leadership and critical thinking skills Reflective and engaging art projects.

  • Senior option opportunities (High School Program).

  • Community Service Opportunities.

High School Program

Adult mentors and student mentees meet twice a week to receive guidance on general life issues, educational achievement, and preparation for their future as college students. 

Weekly meetings encourage one-to-one and group relationships, providing opportunity for connection, personal growth and exploration.

Teen issues include: life skills, dating, bullying, drugs and alcohol abuse, personal health, relationships, self-esteem, as well as college and career options.

Each Sister to Sister mentee is matched with a mentor according to her unique needs. Each mentor is interviewed, trained and then matched according to her preferences and abilities. Every mentee receives ongoing support and supervision.

Middle School and Elementary School Program

STS also has a mentoring programs in Montclair's three middle schools and six Elementary Schools.  Our high school mentee's participation serve as mentors to the middle and elementary school girls, empowered to share their experiences and offer advice as a result of their participation in STS.
